I’m not a plant lady.

I kill plants. So don’t ask me to care for your plants or they will die.

Every spring I say, “This year will be different.”

So after slinking into the garden center, I spy a container, purchase a Forget-Me-Not and then strut out the door. I arrive home, plop the container on an antique chair and admire the gorgeous plant.

Much later, petals drop and leaves turn crispy brown.

I rap my knuckles on my head. If only I had watered the plant and talked to it, it would still be alive.

I douse the plant with water. “Please come back to life,” I say, adding a prayer for good measure.

The Forget-Me-Not blooms once again.

Hope has returned.

“Where flowers bloom so does hope.” Lady Bird Johnson

The Forget-Me-Not reminds me of a project I begin. I have high hopes my project will grow and bloom. If my project appears to be going nowhere, my hope begins to wilt.

I’m now confronted with two choices:

  1. give up and throw away my project, or
  2. ask God to flame my spirit of hope.

I usually choose (2) because I believe:

“God gives a hand to those down on their luck, gives a fresh start to those ready to quit.”

The Message (MSG)

With renewed hope, I continue “watering” my project and wait expectantly for growth.

So, before I head off to visit the other garden containers over at Creative Tuesdays, let me encourage you to never give up on your project(s).

Today, it’s “Thyme to Hope” no matter how long it may take to see results.

“There is always hope for a tree.
If it is cut down, it can grow again.
It will keep sending out new branches.
Its roots might grow old in the ground
and its stump die in the dirt,
but with water, it will grow again.
It will grow branches like a new plant.”
