Help Out “Authors for the Philippines” Online Auction

phil_badge1The Filipino people are dear to my heart. I haven’t had the privilege of visiting the Philippine’s yet, but my niece, who lived in a Christian boarding school in Manila, recounted heartfelt stories about these lovely people. Currently, my nephew lives in Manila.

My sister said, “Manila was spared. Unfortunately, Typhoon Haiyan delivered its deadly blow 500 kilometers south. The school is collecting items to send down to the affected areas, but it is difficult going due to the condition of the roads.”

I have three Filipino friends who attend my church. I don’t know all the details, but they have family members back home who desperately need help. One of the young men had to leave his young wife and extended family to find work in Canada. A few weeks ago, his wife delivered their first child. He hasn’t been able to hold his little one, and now he can’t return to his country island until spring.

So I want you to know that “Authors for the Philippines” has an online auction running until November 20, 2013. That’s just five more days.

If you’re an author, you can still donate a manuscript critique, a writing course, or perhaps a copy or two of your latest book. If you’re an artist, you can donate a masterpiece.

Do you love to read?

I hope so because there are books for all ages that you can bid on.

And here’s a big shout out to author and illustrator, Kathy Temean. If she had not blogged about this worthy cause, I’d still be in the dark, and then I wouldn’t have been able to help…today.

Now I can!

I’ve donated ten of my whimsical greeting cards.

Visit “Authors for the Philippines” and check out the amazing items now up for auction.

The clock’s ticking.

“Forget yourselves long enough to lend a helping hand.”

Don’t Waste Your Time Setting Up a Blog!

I’ve noticed a recurring theme orbiting in blogo-sphere that applies to new writers (I still consider myself a new writer). That is, don’t waste your time setting up a blog. Rather, one should concentrate on learning the ins-and-outs of how to write, and then place fingertips on keyboard or put pen to paper and write a sizzling book. Read the rest of this entry

5 Ways to Foster Your Child’s Intrinsic Motivation

Newborns are born with a built-in radar system, aptly named—intrinsic motivation.

The Deliberative Mind said,

“Motivation is what moves you to go after something you want to have.”

Six Ways You Can Help End Youth Homelessness

“There is much suffering in the world. But the greatest suffering is being lonely, feeling unloved, having no one. I have come more and more to realize that it is being unwanted that is the worst disease that any human being can ever experience.”
Mother Teresa (1910-1998)

We live in a society faced with making clear choices. Our youth are struggling. What do we do? Leave them to fend for themselves? Look the other way? No! We can provide support to help them lead productive lives.
