CREATIVE TUESDAYS—AN OLD WORLD CHRISTMAS & A RED COAT

CREATIVE TUESDAYS—AN OLD WORLD CHRISTMAS & A RED COAT

Creative Tuesdays’ theme is “An Old World Christmas”.

My Christmas scene includes a wooden reindeer on button wheels with a Mommy bunny dressed in a 1950’s-style red coat who is cradling her baby. That’s old world enough for me.

This scene also reminds me of my mother who I love and appreciate more and more the older I get. I don’t know how many more Christmas’ we’ll share, but I pray for at least another thirty years.

The red coat I painted also reminds me of a Christmas Eve from a very, long time ago.

“Please, Mom, let me open just one gift tonight.”

She sighed. “Only one.”

I snatched my biggest gift from under the Charley Brown Christmas tree. Off flew the ribbon, the paper, and the bow.

“Yippee!” I darted to the living room window and stared out into the dimly lit street.

The wind yipped.

“Can I go for a walk?” I asked, jamming my arms in the sleeves.

Mom shook her head. “Zip it up.”

“Mom, please!”

“I meant, zip up the coat.”

I giggled. “Thanks, Mom, you’re the best.” I squeezed her waist so tight she gasped.

The side door slammed behind me.

Snow crunched beneath my boots.

The wind howled, making the falling snow swirl in a dance under the beaming street lights.

I ran my fingers down the side of the hood. Who cares if it’s fake fur, I love it!

With a frozen grin, I sprinted up and down the street for hours.

That red coat was the best Christmas gift I ever received.

Okay, it was the second best Christmas gift. The first was when I accepted God’s greatest gift, His Son, Jesus.

And since Christmas is a time for gift giving, here’s a gift from me to you—a free coloring page that you could color or paint to give to your mom or another special woman in your life.

After all,

“There are only two seasons of joy in a year . . . Christmas & Mother.”

But hurry, this offer expires December 31, 2015 at midnight.

May your Christmas be bright and merry,

Tracy

HOW TO SHOW A CHILD THEY ARE LOVED – CREATIVE TUESDAYS

HOW TO SHOW A CHILD THEY ARE LOVED – CREATIVE TUESDAYS

Creative Tuesdays new theme is “WET”.

So, after plunking on my thinking cap the words “a child’s tears” flooded my brain. And that’s when a sad memory surfaced.

Back in high school my art teacher made me cry (although I didn’t dare shed a tear in front of her). You see, she had the audacity to tell me I didn’t have an artistic bone in my body. I suppose the “C” scrawled on my report card should’ve been a clue.

Humph.

I didn’t think my drawings and paintings were too shabby. Heck, I even patted myself on the back with her yardstick.

Unfortunately, her poisonous words crushed my creative spirit, and I tossed my sketch pad aside for twenty-two years.

“Words kill, words give life, they’re either poison or fruit—you choose.”

     Proverbs 18:21 (The Message)

Perhaps, if she had chosen kind words, my artistic endeavors would have blossomed earlier.

I can’t change the past, but I can suggest that Elementary School teachers and/or Sunday School teachers hand out these notes to their students. As the students color them in, teachers could talk about the importance of choosing their words carefully.

BEE HAPPY, HONEY BEAR

“Gracious speech is like clover honey—

good taste to the soul, quick energy for the body.”

Proverbs 16:24 (The Message)

I’d planned on adding color to my “Bee Happy, Honey Bear”, instead I got carried away playing around with the colored backgrounds and adding the encouraging words.

Parents could also cut-out and tuck these encouraging notes into their child’s lunch bag. My mom tucked hand-written notes into my lunch bag and I did that for my kids too (I wish I had done more of that though).

Like I mentioned above, I can’t change the past but I will encourage young minds to follow their dreams. So kids, keep at it, you can do it!

Next week, these four notes (and a bonus note) will be available in My Whimsical Shop.

In the meantime, to download a FREE coloring page that will encourage the child in your life to “keep at it”, just click on the image below.

Did you know coloring reduces anxiety? It also helps inspire creativity.

How do you show love to the child in your life?

Bear Hugs and Blessings,

A BOUQUET OF PRAISE – CREATIVE TUESDAYS

A BOUQUET OF PRAISE – CREATIVE TUESDAYS

Two weeks ago, I shared that my self-confidence plummeted, but today I’m thrilled to report that after I kept “Looking Up”, I received encouragement by way of a large greeting card order and an order for a pillow.

Gods timing is always perfect. 🙂

The challenge for today’s Creative Tuesdays was to incorporate the flower (shown below) into a bouquet.

Keep Looking Up! Colored with Copic Markers

So… my whimsical flower blossomed into “A Bouquet of Praise”—my way of praising God for all He does, has done, and will continue to do in my life.

A Bouquet of Praise colored with Copic Markers

“With all my heart
    I praise the Lord,
and with all that I am
    I praise his holy name!”

Psalm 103:1 Contemporary English Version (CEV)

And, even though, my life is not perfect, I will continue to praise Him, and I’ll remember to “Keep Looking Up”.

Now it’s time I pop on over to Michael’s Creative Tuesdays blog to cast my gaze on all the other awesome art. I hope you’ll join me. 🙂

Blessings and Hugs,

Tracy
