Finding Joy in Each New Day

Finding Joy in Each New Day

Linda Martin Andersen’s post, Look for Joy, ignited my joy spark.

She suggested starting a “Joy Journal”.

Pop on over to A Writer’s Playground and learn how to implement Linda’s three joyous tips.

Here are my three joy journal entries for today:

  • Found joy in exercising for twenty minutes,
  • Found joy in spending quiet time with my heavenly Father,
  • Found joy in preparing this short post.

Have a joy filled week,

Tracy

A GIFT OF FORGIVENESS–CREATIVE TUESDAYS

A GIFT OF FORGIVENESS–CREATIVE TUESDAYS

Usually, when I think about gifting something to someone I think of a wrapped gift.

While drawing my “gifting” piece, my thoughts twisted ‘round to what it means to offer or receive a gift of forgiveness.

Little did I know that a day after I finished my Creative Tuesdays’ art that I would be the one receiving a gift of forgiveness.

Here’s the condensed version on what transpired.

“Bridle your anger, trash your wrath, cool your pipes—it only makes things worse.”

Psalm 37:8a – The Message (MSG)

If only I had read that verse before I opened my big mouth trap.

When I arrived home, the door of my heart was nudged, okay, it felt more like a poke. “Tracy, you owe him an apology.”

My pride roared like a lion. “No, he’ll get over it.”

After marching into my studio, I stared down at the two words I’d painted the day before—forgive me.

I smacked my forehead. Oh, oh, looks like I need to apologize.

Feeling like a mouse louse, I gulped, and then picked up the phone.

Phew!

I received a much-needed gift of forgiveness not only from the person I offended, but from my Father in heaven. I hate to admit this, but I often need a nudge or a poke to remind me of the importance of forgiving others.

“If you forgive others for the wrongs they do to you, your Father in heaven will forgive you.”

Matthew 6:14 – Contemporary English Version (CEV)

And as Creative Tuesdays’ theme is about gifting something that brings joy to the giver and the receiver, I want to thank two ladies, Wendy L. Macdonald and Lucy Samuels, for blessing me with their photography gifts which inspired today’s creation—“A Gift of Forgiveness”.

Wendy L. Macdonald is a gifted writer, poet, and nature lover who also enjoys expressing herself through photography. Please visit Wendy’s inspiring blog. She has offered up tips on “The Secret to Drying Hydrangea’s for an Indoor Display”.

By the way, do you find it difficult to ask for forgiveness? And/or do you find it difficult to forgive others?

Have a marvelous day,

ARE MY NEIGHBORS BURSTING WITH PRIDE?

ARE MY NEIGHBORS BURSTING WITH PRIDE?

I’m certain my American neighbors are bursting with pride this July 4th weekend. After all, it is Independence Day.

Perhaps, you’ll toss a Frisbee, share a picnic lunch, and/or enjoy spectacular fireworks.

To help you celebrate, I created an illustration titled, Home of the Brave. And today, it’s also featured over at Kathy Temean’s Writing and Illustration Blog.

HOME OF THE BRAVE - TRACY CAMPBELL - JUNE 17, 2015

“Great blessings belong to those who have the Lord as their God!”

A NEAR DEATH EXPERIENCE IN GREENISH-BLUE WATERS – CREATIVE TUESDAYS

A NEAR DEATH EXPERIENCE IN GREENISH-BLUE WATERS – CREATIVE TUESDAYS

Aqua is the color that’s half way between green and blue on the color wheel.

Aqua is also the Latin word for water.

So when our Creative Tuesdays’ host, Michael, chose the word “aqua”, I immediately thought of that greenish-blue liquid that fills a swimming pool, and the ocean.

Now, I don’t live near an ocean and I don’t have a swimming pool. But, childhood memories of swimming in greenish-blue water at the indoor community pool float through my mind.

I loved:

  • drenching friends with humongous cannonballs,
  • whacking a volleyball over the net,
  • showing off my diving skills (sometimes a graceful dive morphed into a belly flop—ouch, and
  • swim meets.

Oh oh…a terrible memory surfaced.

One summer day, as sidewalks sizzled like plugged-in frying pans, the scorching sun lured schools of fish (me and my friends) to the community pool.

Squealing kids somersaulted into the crowded pool. Others scampered up clammy ladders to practice their diving skills. Some, in the deep end, whacked a volleyball over the net. And most, splashed, screamed, and giggled.

I sauntered over to the middle of the pool’s edge, inhaled and plunged head-first into the refreshing aqua-colored water.

My breaststroke and frog kick propelled me. I won’t have to come up for air.

My confidence surged.

One stroke to go.

My outstretched arm slammed into a wall of slippery skin. I surfaced, breathless.

Oh no.

I thrashed the water.

No one sees me.

Choking, I sank like an anchor.

Jesus, help me!

Up-down-up. I was a bobber on a fishing line.

Strong arms yanked me out of the pool.

God, you did everything you promised,
and I’m thanking you with all my heart.
You pulled me from the brink of death,
my feet from the cliff-edge of doom.
Now I stroll at leisure with God
in the sunlit fields of life.”

Psalm 56:12-13 The Message (MSG)

Now that I live in Wasaga Beach (a tourist town known for having the longest freshwater beach in the world), I don’t have to swim in greenish-blue liquid. Then again, if I venture into an ocean, I may get to swim with my bubble-blowing-fashionista-fishy, Fancy.
